Recently, Zhang Lizhi's research group from the
School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong
University published a research paper entitled "Visible light-driven
conversion of carbon-sequestrated seawater into stoichiometric CO and HClO with
nitrogen-doped BiOCl atomic layers” in the well-known academic journal Angewandte
Chemie International Edition. The research paper proposed a new strategy for conversion
of carbon-sequestrated seawater into stoichiometric CO and HClO with
nitrogen-doped BiOCl atomic layers under visible light irradiation. The
produced HClO could efficiently kill typical bacteria in the ballast water of
ocean-going cargo ships, offering a green and safe way for onsite sterilization.
