Abstract:

Solid waste has a large generation volume, wide generation range and significant hazards, with distinctive resource attribute and environmental attribute characteristics, which is the basis for its resourceization and harmlessness. This report is dedicated to explore the influence law of environmental and resource interaction attributes of solid waste, clarify the influence mechanism of material metabolism and environmental and resource interaction attributes in the whole life cycle of solid waste, and establish the technology of discerning environmental and resource attributes of solid waste based on entropy value theory. By analyzing the three levels of "material flow evolution characteristics - resource and environmental attribute characteristics - comprehensive evaluation of environmental resource attributes", we have revealed the material flow evolution characteristics of the generation, consumption and utilization of typical solid wastes of industrial and social sources, evaluated the valuable material resource attributes and the environmental attributes of hazardous substances, and assessed the environmental attributes of valuable substances and hazardous substances in solid wastes. It reveals the material flow evolution characteristics of typical solid waste generation, consumption and utilization of industrial and social sources, evaluates the resource attributes of valuable substances and environmental attributes of hazardous substances in solid waste, elucidates the generation process of typical bulk and high-risk solid waste and the mechanism of environmental resource attributes, and establishes a method for the assessment of the environmental resource interactive attributes of solid waste and environmental resource in accordance with China's national conditions.


About the speaker:

Xianlai Zeng, vice-chairman of Tsinghua University of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of China (DAB), associate researcher at the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, doctoral supervisor, mainly engaged in solid waste treatment, circular economy, metal sustainability research, as the deputy director and secretary-general of the Circular Economy Branch of the Chinese Society of Environmental Science, deputy director of the Regional Specialty Committee of the Chinese Society of Ecological Economics; selected as a Fulbright Scholar of the Center for the Study of Industrial Ecology of Yale University ( 2018-2019), National Young Leading Talents in Ecological Environmental Protection Specialties and Technologies (2021), and Young Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education (2023). In recent years, he has presided over 16 major research programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Key Research and Development Program on Solid Waste Resource Utilization, and the commissioned projects of the National High-end Think Tank, etc. He has published 110 papers in domestic and international journals such as Science Bulletin, Nature Subjournals, ES&T, etc., and has written 7 books and 12 authorized patents; he has been invited to be the lead author to write the United Nations Global Environment Outlook (GEO)-7 "Matter Cycle". He was invited to be the lead author of the chapter "Material Cycle" of the United Nations Global Environment Outlook-7, and was awarded the Outstanding Youth Science and Technology Award of the Science and Technology Award of the China Environmental Protection Federation (2024), the Young Talent Award of the FESE Journal (2022), the Special Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Science and Technology Award of the China Environmental Protection Federation (2023), and the Academic Award of the Management Science Award of the Chinese Society of Management Science (2020).
